Story

A young girl is fascinated by the land she can see from her Island home far across the sea. She pleads with a boatman to take her there. He being a wise man knows it would be wrong, and tells her the reason why he cannot take her.

Lyrics

Hey little girl, I've seen you once before. Down along the quayside where the boats sail into shore. I bet you can't remember when you cried out to me. Take me from this island to the land across the sea, but how can I take you where the deep blue waters flow. You'll be far from home with a long way still to go. Hey little girl the sun is going down The tide will soon be high and I must leave this town. I bet you won't remember when you cried out to me. Take me from this island to the land across the sea, but how can I take you where the deep blue waters flow, you'll be far from home with a long way still togo.

Story

A broken romance

Lyrics

You don't have to cry just because it's raining. Save your tears today, don't think about complaining. Cos nothing you can do will stop the rain from falling, so hide your tears away till sunny days are calling. Thai Lady, Why? I really can't believe, you came into my life, now you have to leave. You don't have to cry tear drops on your pillow. Leave them for today, save them for tomorrow. Cos when the morning comes the rain may still be falling, So hide your tears away till sunny days are calling. Thai Lady, Why? I really can't believe, you came into my life, now you have to leave.

Story

I remember my mother taking me on an outing when I was about 5 years old. I still don't know where she took me but this song describes all I saw and imagined.

Lyrics

I was just a young lad on a hillside looking down. Watching all the people gathered in the town. I once saw the Master on the harbour quayside, in his winter coat, standing by a boat, waiting for the tide. I was just a young lad when my father went to sea. Sailing with a fair wind he would wave to me. I once saw a Captain by the harbour quayside, on the cobbled tiles, looking out for miles, waiting for the tide. I would give my heart to be sailing as the boats get underway. See the water swell, hear a cabin bell, as we drift along the bay. I would sing with them shanty love songs, I would pledge my heart to the sea. As the ocean flows and a fair wind blows, that's the greatest place I can be.

Story

Originally written for a female voice, since reworked. A young girl day dreams about a young man she has seen and how she would like to be his girl.

Lyrics

I'm so very happy for I'm seventeen today. There's a girl I know who loves me so and she will marry me. We will be so happy for I'm seventeen today All I ask she must do is love me true and take good care of me. By a meadow stream I wait again when she will come by for me. I will give to her a daisy chain and she will marry me. I'm so very happy for I'm seventeen today. She will be my girl, I'll love her well and she will marry me. We will be so happy for I'm seventeen today. Though I know in my heart, we're too far apart yet she's the world to me.

Lyrics

I know what love means, I walked that path before and it seems, Never far apart for long, sometimes right, sometimes wrong. When someone really cares, it's the answer to your prayers. Through the darkest day, love will find a way. I know whatr love means, I've walked that path before and it seems, In a world of happiness, nothing more, nothing less. With a reason to belong, things can't go wrong. A time when feelings show, a time for love to glow, and sometimes I believe dreams do come true. In my loneliness, I really can confess. Somewhere in this world, a star came shining through. Took me by the hand and now I understand.

Lyrics

Along the way where clours fell, a Piper plays a last farewell. A time to share, a time to care, war's never fair. A lover cries, a candle glows, a flower dies, another grows. The drums will roll and colours fly, so many more have come to die. No place to hide, march on with pride, God's on your side. A time to give, a time to cry, a time to live, a time to die. Sometimes the night, sometimes the day, Somewhere they fight, so far away. Some come to give, some vome to choose, Sometimes to win, sometimes to lose.

Lyrics

I'm coming home, I've wasted so much time in this lonely City. It took a while, now I know my dream's not pretty. One thing I'm not sure, you may not be there anymore. I kept a picture on the shelf,I have to find out for myself. Win or lose, what difference can it make. I guess that's just a chance I'll have to take. When I look around, the future seems unclear. The times I've asked myself, what good am I doing here. For it really wasn't worth leaving a heaven here on Earth. A train stands by the track, waiting there to take me back. I'm coming home. I'm coming home, this dream of mine is really phoney. A crowded City, where I've never felt so lonely. One thing that's for sure, I'm never coming back here anymore. I've discovered for myself, more than a picture on the shelf. Win or lose, what difference can it make. Well I guess that just a chance I'll have to take.

Story

City of London, from the album 'City sounds Night and day.'

Lyrics

Allison waits for the boy next door and travels by train to a busy store. She makes her way through a market fayre then she heads on down to the City Square and she works all day with the staff on the basement floor. The town hall clock that's covered in grime can still be heard when it starts to chime A vendors proud with his brand new shoes as he cries to the folk with the morning news and the Station man says the trains are running on time. Listen to the news, take a river cruise. Hear the children cry, see the world go by. Allison runs a department store, from 9am till half past four. People wait by the door each day and they amble round in the same old way, but they never know what they'll really looking for. An early train is leaving town, a Postman brings all the mail bags down. The Council men clear the garbage bins, while a Florist smiles as her work begins and the streets get cleaned as the rain starts beating down. Listen to the news, take a river cruise. Hear the children cry, see the world go by.

Lyrics

The more I think about Sarah, the more I think she is fairer, The more I want to discover who she really is. Why can't we always be together, something I wousl always treasure, Being so true. Why do people love Sarah?, why do they think she is fairer? Why does this feeling begin when I capture her smile. Why can't we always be together, so much in love forever Being so true. Dreams come true and every fellow needs a dream come true, and every other girl that I once new was never so fair.

Lyrics

Drifitng along never was easy, I took on the world for it seemed like fun, sold what I had when my troubles began and broke every promise I made. Drifitng along sometimes was crazy, I played in each town but never stayed long, took when I could though I knew it was wrong and lost every dime that I made. Over the bridge was a welcoming glade where the sun shined bright every day. There the grass seemed greener but soon began to fade. Love's like a game, sometimes there are losers, I waited too long and it slipped away. Lost every chance so I called it a day and made for a brand new start. Love was a flame that never stopped burning. When things got too hot I made for the track, took what I could but put nopthing back and left with a broken heart. So bring on a light to my dream. I'll turn back the way that I came. Where crystal waters gleam and grass is green, just the same.

Soldier deserts from the Army and finds love

Lyrics

Run Soldier Run, head towards the sun Leave the beaten track or they're bound to take you back. Run Soldier Run, now you've had your fun Hold your musket high for the war is not yet won. There's no more honey but take what you want. There's no more money and I've helped you all I can. There's no more loving to take anymore So go now sonny and don't come back no more. Run Soldier run when this war is done take the beaten track, you won't need your musket gun. Run soldier run,now you've had your fun, if you ever wed, what will you tell your son. So long Soldier, this war's not won, So lonf Soldier, your job's not done. So long Soldier.

fOLK SONG OF HOME ROOTS

Lyrics

If you ask me where I'm going, I can tell you only this. There's a place I used to know before we met. It was there that thoughts came flowing,a place I'll always miss, and where ever I may be I'll not forget. I know where I am going, believe me when I say. Heartbreaks have no reason to complain. For peace inspires a healing, it resonates a feeling, that teaches all the world to love again. When it seemed my world was falling, all my thoughts began to flow with the sound of forest streams that drift along. I can hear the voices calling from a place I used to know, and the feel of distant dreams that linger on. And I won't ever leave this place again. (c) Copyright Westlander Muisc U.K.

Story

In the U.K. there was a time when power strikes were quite frequent and unexpected, especially at night. One dangerous craze in our area was to obtain a large empty coffee tin (from a cafe) pierce it with small holes and fit a metal chain so it could be held safely. Then we would fill the can with paper, wood, and coal and ignite it. When swung round by holding the chain, the can would blaze into life.

Lyrics

I was heading on for home one frosty evening when all the kids were playing on the street, with tin cans perced with holes, and filled with burning coals, on a rusty chain that danced around their feet. As a band played on that stirred the hearts of angels, a wild cat strike was looking pretty grim. Someone pulled the switch and the lights began to dim. Hold out a candle in the night. I was heading on for home one frosty evening a cold night air was really set to bite. The kids along the street, held fire cans at their feet, that flickered on like candles in the night.

Lyrics

I'll be thinking of you every moment I'm away and I will miss you Baby each and every day, and though I can't be with you just remember this. All my thoughts go to you with a loving kiss. So don't you worry Baby just believe me when I say I'll be writing home to you every single day, and as the nights are passingI will promise this all my thoughts go to you with a loving kiss. (c)westlander Music UK So don't you worry Baby, let the tears roll be. It's time for me to go and it hurts to see you cry. Story

A love song, a broken relationship in which the guy pleads with his lover not to leave him.

Lyrics

Baby, Baby don't leave me I'm not very strong, I guess that I was wrong. Baby, Baby don't leave me, suddenly I just knew, heaven was here with you, and it's cold outside, somthing deep inside. I need you Baby, I can't live without you. Just as long as the stars shine above you believe me Baby I will always love you. Baby, Baby don't leave me. I knew from the start, something touched my heart. Baby, Baby don't leave me, I'll never be untrue, I'm living just for you, and it's cold outside, something deep inside. I need you Baby, I can't live without you, just as long as the stars shine above you believe me Baby I will always love you now.

Story

At the time, a rather neglected little beauty spot overlooking green meadows and woodlands. Quite and peaceful and away from the town.

Lyrics

Along the river path was a bridge leading far beyond to a place I KNEW. Where I would come to find peace of mind, leave me cares behind as I wandered through, and the war just goes on, just goes on, and I saw all was gone, all waas gone. I walked the river path, day by day, cast my cares away, by the place I knew. I found the time to think, reason why, watch the day go by, as I wandered through. and the war just goes on, just goes on, and I saw all was wrong, all was wrong. As the Summer rain was falling song birds seemed to gather mear. I could hear sweet voices calling, till the rain began to clear, and the river streams came flowing, on their way to the sea, while a cooling wind was blowing, as the song birds sang for me.

Story

I saw this film on TV about a young couple who go on the rampage, looting, shooting and everything else. I had this notion that it would be so nice if they could see the error of their ways. Then a happy ending could be an option rather than the usual strong arm of the law triumphing.

Lyrics

Cecilia, Cecilia, why must we wait. This time by tomoroow will be too late. The future's looking bright, the last train leaves tonight. Cecilia, Cecilia, one step to go. Got to keep your head, staying low, be on the move instead. Took a long haul ride on a diesel run, driving through the night. Stayed side by side and lived just for fun. Did what we thought was right. Got to keep on moving, stay on the run. Hide away from the things we've done. Love each other like we said we should Stick together as we said we would. The future looks bright, the last train leaves tonight. Put the rain behind we'll change with the morning sun.

Lyrics

Goodbye Baby Blue, I guess I'm not the one you're looking for. Maybe that's why the Sun don't s hine anymore. So long Summer days, seems the weatherman was wrong again. I can't believe I only have the rain. I can still remember how your perfume filled the air. A smile that made your eyes glow and the colour of your hair. Maybe by September the rain will drift away, and Sunny days will come again, just like yesterday. Goodbye Baby Blue, I guess I'm not the one you're looking for I don't believe in love as I did before. So long Summer Days, seems the weather's changing once again. I can't believe I only have the rain.

A happy reconciliation appears to be on the cards. Originally written for a female voice.

Lyrics

Good times are heading my way, we're getting on back together. Heaven knows, it's taken far too long. Only shows you can't hold back forever. Good times, are heading my way, I'm counting on decent weather. Got to show how fine we get along. Even though it seems to rain forever. Got to make the good times last, haven't time for stormy weather. Put the bad times in the past, show the world we're back together. Happy that we really tried, we'll be dancing all day from nine till five. Really glad to be alive, rocking on down by the riverside. Story

That homesick feeling.....guess we all experience that from time to time. Actually I got the idea after over hearing this woman say to her friends 'I'm a long way from home right now.'

Lyrics

When I walk on from the City, I hear a voice that's calling me somehow. Where can I hide my sorrow, where will I be tomorrow, I'm a long way from home right now. I'm a long way from home right now. When I look on from my window, The City lights reach out to me somehow. But all my thoughts are blinded, I need to be reminded, cos I'm a long way from home right now, I'm a long way from home right now. When the rain beats down on my window I reach out to the sky I can catch the falling raindrops as clouds go drifting by. The neon lights from the City go reaching far away. I can see them from my window fading with the day. As I walk on from the City, I tell myself that I'll get by somehow. But even though I'm trying, this heart of mine is dying cos I'm a long way from home right now. I'm a long way from home right now.

Story

A lover, realizing there is no future in his relationship watches his love as she sleeps. Then finally depart before she wakes.

Lyrics

Sleep tight my beautiful girl, Close your eyes and lock your dreams away. I count the stars glowing bright as you drift on through the night, and hide my thoughts away for one more day. So many times in the past when I thought this love won't last, but now I know, When the tears begin to flow, you will touch my heart, and I will say, I guess that I was wrong. Good night my beautiful girl, I can see a tear drop in your eye. If all my dreams would come true, I'll be dreaming here with you, instead of counting stars as night goes by. The dawn is still far away, but I must be on my way, because I know, when the tears begin to flow, You will touch my heart and I will say, I guess that I was wrong. And when I see you cry, I sometimes wonder why, you feel the same, this love is like an endless flame. Even in the rain it burns again and never seems to die. If all my dreams come true then my troubles would be few, and instead of counting the stars at night I'll be dreaming here with you. The dawn is far away but I must be on my way, because I know when the tears begin to flow, you will touch my heart and I will say, I guess that I was wrong.

The original idea was about an old locomotive steam train returning to it's roots after many years service.

Lyrics

Jenny is coming home to the place that she was born in. Along this lonesome road she'll be here by the morning. And thought I can't remember when she was last in town, I know that I'll be happy when I see her heading down. Jenny is coming home where the meadow streams are flowing. Along this lonesome road the Summer winds are blowing. And though I can't remember the day she left this town, I know that I'll be waiting when she comes heading down Along this lonesome highway, where ever she may be. I'll give my love to Jenny cos she remembers me.

Story

Not the most romantic theme to write about. This song celebrates the great achievement of Sir Joseph Bazalgette, the Engineer who designed and built the London sewer system in the late nineteenth century.

Lyrics

There was someting in the news that came today. Seems there may be many changes on the way, here moving fat, here at last. Guess it's time to call Sir Joseph in today, put the work in hand and get things underway, then one day, he can say. Now all the world will come to know a new age has begun, And everyone will cry for me and say a job well done. All the Lords and Commons gathered here today. They may have to hold their meeting far away. Such a shame, who's to blame. Guess it's time to call Sir Joseph in today. Tell the men they have to start work right away, then one day, he can say. Now all the world will come to know a new age has begun, and everyone will cry for me and say a jobe well done. When the Summer days had been, all the Lords could not be seen, and the Commons had it worng, for they waited far to long. Time to make the river clean.

I overheard someone use the expression 'Love has been the answer all along' and it gave me the idea for this song.

Lyrics

Love is such a feeling, that the whole world has to know. It's deeper than the oceans and it really goes to show. Greater than a mountain and the sweetest song, Love has been the answer all along. Love may be the reason why the world goes rolling on. Sailing through the heavens where all the stars have shone. Drifting on forever with the sweetest song, Love has been the answer all along. Rolling, keep on rolling on shining bright. Glowing as a candle burns in the night. Rolling from the shadows to the morning light. Rolling, keep on rolling on shining bright. Rolling, keep on rolling on through the night.

Story

It had been raining almost non stop for days and days. It seemed as though it would never stop. This describes my feelings at that time and how I really wanted to escape the appalling weather and go some place else.

Lyrics

As Summer days were ending and the rains began to fall, I cried out from my window but no one heard me call. I'm moving on to the City and I can't come back no more. For all I have are heartaches waiting by the door. I'll take a train to the City, there's a dream that I was told. Somewhere there's a Palace where the streets are paved with gold. I'm moving on to the City and I can't come back no more. For all I have are heartaches waiting by the door. And the rains come and still keep on falling. Guess they may as well stay here forever. I just can't wait for the Summer when Summertime dreams are calling. I don't care much for this weather, I'm moving on today.

Story

One of those rare protest songs one doesn't hear no more.

Lyrics

Gather round and listen, for a new world has begun. These times may soon be changing, there are wars that can't be won. But sisters and their brothers will come to love all others, in a new age generation that the world's not seen before. Listen all you dreamers, there is something to be said. Your fathers saw the wisdon in commanding peace instead. Your daughters will be mothers of future sons and lovers, in a new age generation that the world's not seen before. But somewhere sons are crying and yet no one hears them call. Many more are dying when they had no need to fall. And all the time we're trying to believe this world is free. Someone must be lying for the truth is hard to see.

sail on the tide, back to the girls I used to know. With just the stars to guide me and a fair wind set to blow. I'll leave my cares behind me as calmer waters flow. A brief story of Anne Bolyn (Henry VIII second wife) She was Queen for a thousand days

Lyrics

Sweet as an English Rose, a maiden waits no more. For Summer comes and goes, and dreams mean so much more. Time to change these simple ways. A Queen for a thousand days. Sweet as an English Rose, left waiting in the shade. Where troubled water flows and dreams will often fade. Tried so hard in many ways, A Queen for a thousand days. Take this Lady now for she is waiting to be led upon her way. All the time she is hating just to fight for one more day.

Lyrics

Who was Sylvia, as the nights drift slowly by. In my dreams she's the apple of my eye. Each night my love for her starts to burn like a flame, and I know that she will come to me, when I call her name. Who was Sylvia, for she answered to my prayers. In my dreams I will cast away my cares. Each night my love for her starts to burn like a flame. For I know that I love Sylvia and I hear her call my name. But then the morning comes and she has gone again. I bless the day to drift on by. For dreams begin to fade and I must live again, until the evening calls and love come by.

Lyrics

Stormy clouds are drifting and the lights are going down. Just as I remember when I was leaving town, and the raindrops on my window always bring to mind, the times I broke the heart of the girl I left behind. So long Baby, this place is not where I belong, don't cry now cos the skys will soon be blue. So long Baby, wait until the rain has gone. Hide your tears away let the Sun come shining through. Better start chasing rainbows before they fade away. So step back from your window it's gonna be a long hard day. Cos I've gotta tell you Baby, change is on the way. So step back from your window it's gonna be a long hard day.

Story

There is a very long explanation about this song, too long to explain here. Email me if you really would like to know the origins of this song.

Lyrics

The rain left off as the clouds went drifting by. The moon was high and the light was fading fast. I told my folks they needn't wait my key was by the door. I'll head back home and won't be late I've been that way before. Run through the valley there's no place I can hide. Head for the alley by the Church on the other side. There's a house I know where a Devil waved her wand. I took my chance and I went one step beyond. I heard my name but looked away, I'd seen her once before. I should have stayed at home that day and boarded up the door. Run through the valley, there's no place I can hide, head for the alley by the Church on the other side. On the steps from hell in a long white gown, I saw her face as she walked on down. A voice called out as I hurried on past, I'd love to stay but I'm getting home fast. A cloud passed by and the sky went back, I ran for home and I never looked back. The moon was high and the light was fading fast. Run through the valley there's no place I can hide. Head for the alley by the Church on the other side.

Where better to go and escape the heartbreaks of a broken romamce. Head for town and absorb your mind with music for every emotion.

Lyrics

I wandered into town as the sun was going down Trying hard to leave my cares behind. The sound of a thousand stars filled the Honky Tonks and bars not the kind of thing I had in mind. Then the music I could hear took my breath away. Melodies that brought a tear seemed to pass my way. I tried to understand, find a reason why, all my dreams of yesterday began to drift on by. Each time that the music played so much came to mind, bringing back those special days long since left behind. I tried to understand, find a reason why. All my dreams of yesterday began to drift on by. On a table near the bar where a stage was not too far. Somewhere from a crowded avenue. A neon light shone bright and with music through the night, I settled down to see the evening through. Then the music I could hear took my breath away Melodies that brought a tear seemed to pass my way.
